Antony Dundas made his debut at
Lakeside in 2013 and as part of the so called TeamRef alongside the likes of Richard Ashdown, Nick Rolls, Charlie Corstorphine and Marco Meijer became a focal point of the BDO.
This was before the start of the demise of the BDO which was preempted by all of them walking away in 2019.
But for Dundas, it was an interesting journey up to his 2013 debut at the historic venue as he spoke to the Inside the WDF Podcast.
“I think it was Ross Montgomery who had a good bit to do with it. He was behind the scenes having a few words in certain peoples ears, just have a look at this guy, he’s good at what he does,” said Dundas to Inside the WDF podcast.
“I was at Lakeside 2012 as a journalist believe it or not for the now defunct BDO Forums. A friend of mine had said to me do you fancy going down and interview a few players so he got us accreditation to get into the press room.
“We went down and did a few interviews and Gary Stone had qualified. It was the first year that Gary had qualified and I remember being in one of the side rooms of the Lakeside hotel playing pool and an official came in and said Antony can we have a word with you.”
“I walked out into another room and it was like walking into the headmasters room. The full Scottish committee was lined up, five of them just sitting looking at me and I’m sitting across them like what have I done and they were like we just wanted to ask if you’d referee at the Scottish Open this year and I was like absolutely.”
“I jumped at the opportunity and after that it just snowballed.”
