Former two-time World Champion, Ted Hankey has been charged with sexual assault and will appear at Warrington Magistrates' Court next month, it has been confirmed.
The charge relates to an incident which occurred in Cheshire in September 2021.
Famously known as 'The Count', he won the BDO World Darts Championship in 2000 and 2009 and was also a runner-up previously twice.
Earlier this year, he was due to play the World Seniors Darts Championship but withdrew for personal reasons and has since gone viral due to footage of the so-called Devil's Finish being shared on social media from the IDL when he faced John Walton. He will appear in court on April 6.
Cheshire Police said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Cheshire Constabulary to charge Edward Hankey with the sexual assault of a woman.
"The CPS made the decision to charge the 54-year-old after reviewing a file of evidence from Cheshire Constabulary.
"The charge relate to an incident that occurred in Cheshire in September 2021."
