Dartsnews recently had the opportunity to talk to Peter Machin, the BDO World Trophy winner for this year ahead of the Grand Slam which is taking place in a few weeks which due to his World Trophy win, Machin will be apart of. This is the first part of a two part interview and in this part we speak about him getting into darts, his World Trophy win and Australian darts at the moment.
Firstly we asked him how he got into darts growing up and he had this reply :
"My father was in the very 1st State team representing South Australia in the Australasian championships back in the early 60's & my grand father was the captain. So you could say I was born with a set of darts in my hand."
Next of all we asked him about how it felt to win the World Trophy and go one better this year as well as about whether or not he will be back to defend it next year.
"Just to reach the final was amazing. To grace the stage with the players I played was surreal. It gave me the confidence that I could play on stage & lifted my confidence for this year. I will be back next year to defend the trophy."
Finally we asked him to end off the first part his thoughts on Australian Darts at the minute and in particular Kyle Anderson and Corey Cadby who are making huge strides at the moment.
"Darts as a whole is getting stronger & it's fantastic. I've known Kyle for many years & he's a great guy off & on the dart board. I commend him for what he's doing. Corey's going from strength to strength & he's the right age with all the opportunities available at the moment."
