Onto 2001 and it was John ‘Boy’ Walton who had won the World Masters the year prior who defeated
Ted Hankey in the final 6-2 becoming the 15th World Champion.
He saw off Ritchie Davies, Mervyn King, Marko Pusa and Wayne Mardle en route to the title in a year which also saw the Women’s World Champion crowned for the first time in Trina Gulliver.
