THROWBACK VIDEO: John ‘Boy’ Walton defeats Ted Hankey to claim 2001 BDO World Darts Championship

With the BDO World Darts Championship not taking place this month due to the organisation’s demise, DartsNews looks back at classic moments and matches throughout January from the showpiece event.

Onto 2001 and it was John ‘Boy’ Walton who had won the World Masters the year prior who defeated Ted Hankey in the final 6-2 becoming the 15th World Champion.

He saw off Ritchie Davies, Mervyn King, Marko Pusa and Wayne Mardle en route to the title in a year which also saw the Women’s World Champion crowned for the first time in Trina Gulliver.
