The match started in exceptional style, both players hitting a 180 with there first visit. Mitchell going on to break the Baetens throw for the first leg. Baetens responded with a break of his own, setting the tone for the rest of the match, Neither player managing to hold their throw more then 60% of the time. Debutant Baetens being the first man to hold as he closed out set 1 in a deciding leg.
Baetens took the second set too, Scotty Dog once again failing to muster a hold of throw. In fact it was the 11th leg of the match before the English national team player managed to get on the board with a leg in which he had thrown first. His second hold followed in the next leg in which Mitchell had the darts. That secured the 3rd set.
The fourth set was all about Scotty Dogs finishing, applying some exquisite consecutive outshots to his scoring power. At one point winning 3 from 4 legs with finishes of 141,121 and 120.
Baetens fought back though, taking deciding legs in the 5th (a 91 out on the bull) and 6th sets to seal the match. Mitchell missing a handful of darts to force a deciding leg. Baetens now continues his run at
Lakeside, he will face either Dean Reynolds, or former two-time world champion Scott Waites in the last 8.
