Daryl Gurney cemented his credentials last night to win the prestigious World Championship at the Alexandra Palace. He defeated 'The Rebel' Ronny Huybrechts 3-1 in a contest that included high averages and high scoring from both but despite that Gurney got through and showed why he is someone to seriously watch.
The World Grand Prix champion spoke after his win and admitted at points he tried to hard and has said he needs to take form even further onto the stage to get further in the competition.
"I played really well the first two sets and then I was probably trying too hard in the third set to try and close it out 3-0," said Gurney.
"The way I played in the first two sets, taking my chances out, that's the way I have been playing but I haven't taken it up on the stage and that's what I need to do if I'm to continue in this competition."
