De Zwaan averaged just shy of 100 alongside van Gerwen. 'Mighty Mike' did not play badly but De Zwaan held his throw when it mattered and broke Van Gerwen multiple times on the way to a big victory for the young Dutchman.
Also out is the reigning
UK Open champion Peter Wright. 'Snakebite' bowed out to the 18 year old Nathan Rafferty from Northern Ireland. It was a 10-9 victory for the youngster who is part of the same stable as Daryl Gurney, Jamie Hughes and Benito van de Pas.
Other former champions out include Adrian Lewis who lost to Dirk van Duijvenbode 10-5 and Robert Thornton who lost to the in-form Dave Pallett.
