Anderson was one of the main favourites for the tournament but ‘Superchin’ dumped him out handing the pressure all on to Michael van Gerwen.
Gurney started off well hitting a 110 checkout after a 180 to kick off the leg while Anderson followed it up with a 121 checkout on the bull for one a piece.
Despite that though ‘Superchin’ would cruise ahead to take the first set 3-1 taking out 110 again with a 95 average and 3 out of 3 on his doubles.
In the next set it was another 3-1 for Gurney with him handing the impetus over to Anderson to match him and force him into a battle.
As the scoreline shows this is something which did not happen with Gurney coming through to take the tie including a brilliant 102 checkout in the final set.
