Defending champion Glen Durrant is through his first assignment in the form of Mark McGrath and Lorraine Winstanley edged past Casey Gallagher to begin Tuesday’s evening session at Lakeside.

Durrant was brilliant in seeing off Mark McGrath in straight sets, there would have been small doubts before the tournament began but he soon dispelled them. He went 2-0 up with ease and when McGrath started to come back he held his nerve including going 5 darts into the nine darter in the deciding leg. He finished it off with a 116 checkout on double 18. ‘Duzza’ hit seven 180’s overall and will face Scott Bsker in the next round of his title defence. Winstanley on the other hand was shaky to begin her Lakeside campaign against Gallagher who of course thrashed her at the World Masters. She began by claiming the first set but only just with Gallagher pushing her all the way and it was a set the latter should have won. Gallagher claimed a set herself in a deciding leg in the following set but Winstanley upped her standard in the final set to claim the win. for more information about the 2019 BDO Lakeside World Championship.
