Raymond van Barneveld continued on his search for his first title in a long while and that has been heightened now he has got to the Quarter-Finals in a depleted field full of withdrawals and shocks.
Tonight he averaged nearly 10 more than his opponent
Steve Beaton who he defeated in straight sets 3-0 to end the 3rd day of action at the Citywest.
Barney got firing early taking the first set comfortably 3-1 with Beaton averaging 70. He missed doubles in the opening leg of the next set and despite being below par, 'The Bronzed Adonis' cleaned up but it was the former Lakeside champion's turn to miss doubles and it cost him the set with Barney stepping in to hit D18 to win it.
A repeat of the 1st set in terms of scoreline with Barney hitting a 89 checkout to start the set, then tops before messing up just before he was about to reach the finish line but due to Beaton's performance, Barney only lost one leg as a result and took his place in the Quarter-Finals on Thursday.
