Rob Cross started off his reign as top seed in the Players Championships Finals by knocking out the 64th seed, 'Stack Attack' Robert Owen. He ended up winning 6-2 despite him not being in the greatest form with a 129 checkout to complete the victroy and move through to round 2.
Daryl Gurney won through against Jeffrey de Zwaan smashing the young Dutchman 6-0. De Zwaan played well but missed 14 darts at doubles which costed him a place in Round 2 with Gurney not exactly at his best. It was enough though and he will play the winner of Vincent van der Voort and Robbie Green who play on Board 2.
Over on Board 2, there were two more winners.
William O'Connor who will make his first World Championship appearance next month defeated James Wilson 6-5. Wilson's last match as the Jammie Dodger as he changes to Lethal Biscuit next month ended in bad luck with Wilson hitting seven 180's and missing a match dart which as punished by 'The Magpie'
Also on the same board,
John Henderson continued his brilliant form by smashing through Darren Johnson. The Highlander won 6-2 averaging 90 and will be glad to get through to Round 2 after last appearing on TV in the magical World Grand Prix run a few months back.
