This past weekend saw another European Tour event which provided Michael van Gerwen another title win as he saw off William O’Connor in the final at the European Darts Matchplay.
Van Gerwen who had taken a bit of time off and hadn’t played in any of the recent Players Championship events stormed to the title. He hit a nine darter on the way, something which hadn’t been achieved in five years on the European Tour.
Facing William O’Connor who alongside Andy Boulton made a shock run to the last four. ‘The Magpie’ has looked a quality player but has never really threatened to win titles.
As a result he will see this past weekend as a massive confidence boost in his ambitions for the rest of 2018.
