Danny Noppert was one of the highlights leading up to the World Darts Championship. 'The Freeze' reached the semi-finals of the World Grand Prix and was in the quarter-finals of the European Championships.
Especially during the World Grand Prix Noppert made a strong impression, convincingly sending Michael van Gerwen, Vincent van der Voort and Ian White home. In the last four the eventual winner Jonny Clayton proved to be too strong.
Yet these results have given Noppert a lot of confidence. "I am finally throwing well on stage. I am showing my form of the floor tournaments on stage and I am happy about that. Because you win more matches on stage, you also get more confidence'', he tells RTL 7.
Noppert, in Alexandra Palace number eighteen of the rankings, plays against Jason Heaver or Juan Rodriguez. "I don't know them both very well", Noppert admits. "I think Heaver played at the Players Championship Finals and he played a good game there. So I'm not going to underestimate them."
If he wins his first match, he could face Ryan Searle in the third round. After that former world champion Peter Wright might be waiting. But Noppert is not thinking about that just yet. "I'm just going to look at it match by match. I hope I can keep this form up and maintain the consistency in my game.
