"A lot of weight has fallen off my shoulders": Hendriks relieved after grueling debut win over Hughes at PDC World Darts Championship

Jimmy Hendriks sealed a debut win over Jamie Hughes 3-1 in a real grueling tie which saw both miss a combined 56 darts at doubles throughout.

Hendriks having prior played at the Lakeside can add Ally Pally to his list and said a weight is now off.

"This is really special, I am really relieved, a lot of weight has fallen off my shoulders yes'', Hendriks said afterwards as per De Telegraaf.

"You work so hard towards this and then you actually play a bad match, but my opponent played that too. Then you lead 2-0 in the first set, but you still give it away. That's how it felt. It just didn't feel right, but he didn't throw anything either, so I thought: you won't get more chances. After the break he threw 26 and 23, then you think it might be a piece of cake. But you have to work so hard on that stage, that's really unprecedented."

Next up is Brendan Dolan and the aim is to get better now after having that winning feeling.

''This definitely gives a different feeling next time, this first one is through,'' he added. ''I've been in front of bigger and fuller halls, but this is really something different. I have to make sure I'm throwing like I do at home on my little dartboard.''
