After gaining a tour card and putting up an impressive showing at the Alexandra Palace, Scott Williams looked all set to have a breakout year in 2023 however that's not how it's transpired, not so far at least.

"After winning my tour card, my level has dropped dramatically," the 33-year-old Englishman wrote on Twitter. "I play a lot less games and I'm not cold-blooded anymore."

'Shaggy' as he's known was the big winner on the 2022 edition of the PDC Challenge Tour. Earning himself a place at the PDC World Darts Championship and gaining a tour card, Williams impressed throughout last year.

A highlight of his year was arguably becoming just the third man to win a Players Championship event whilst not having a PDC Tour Card. Since winning his card however, both his performances and his results have not been at the level he would have hoped for.

Having qualified for just one of the thirteen European Tour events so far, Williams is finding it hard to get regular, competitive action, something he believes is to blame for the drop off in form he has seen in 2023.
