Aspinall after sneaking past Smith on Premier League Judgement Night: "I feel like I've nicked a point from him but I've been in that position many times"

Nathan Aspinall benefited from double trouble as he recovered from 5-3 down against Michael Smith to win 7-5 on the opening game of Premier League Judgement Night.
Aspinall watched on as Smith spurned eight chances to claim a point; this allowed the former UK Open champion to claim a brilliant win.
"Maybe a draw would have been a fair result, but I'm happy to get the win and I'll take it," said Aspinall. "I feel like I've nicked a point from him but I've been in that position many times.
"It's probably the game I've enjoyed most during the Premier League this season. It was a brilliant game to be involved in - we bring the best out of each other and it was another great game. He threw everything at me but I dug deep.
"I felt for him at the end when he missed those doubles, but it shows that with or without a crowd, you still feel the pressure. I'm loving it though and I'll take confidence from tonight."

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
