Bobby George remains an iconic figure in the sport with the World Seniors seeing him in an ambassador role and the 'King of Bling' still popular in the past as a pundit and on the exhibition circuit.
George has known a lot of darts players over the years but one stands out for him in terms of the way he was as a person.
"He was a great dart player, a real gentleman I'd never see him upset, I never heard him run anyone down was Alan Glazier. He was a really good dart player, a great entertainer for exhibitions. Never see him nasty, always had time for people. He was a lot of fun he was," said George on 2nd City Radio.
Bristow passing away
With
Eric Bristow, their relationship was more complex but he recounts his time with him as well as the day he sadly passed away.
"He wasn't nasty, he was Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, when he had a drink he changed. That's his only trouble. He was rude to people. I was with him the day he passed away. I was doing sort of meet and greets and he did the later one, I did it in the afternoon and he done it from 5-7."
"I left about 5 and I went to one of his mates who stayed in the pub, when I got there, I got a phone call. He was rolling a cigarette walking across the car park and he fell down dead. He died instantly."
"He done what he wanted to do, he enjoyed his life. He didn't take any notice of anyone else."
Best dart player ever debate
The debate always rolls on about the best player ever but George believes it is a certain Green Machine.
"The best dart player is
Michael van Gerwen, he's the best player I've ever seen. He's born with it, he didn't work at it. He don't have to work at it. When he's on it, there's no-one I've seen play darts better than that."
On
Phil Taylor, he doesn't see him holding that mantle due to when he won his World Championships and the differing standard.
"He won the World Championships but it wasn't like the PDC today. He was at the top when they only had a few players."
