Wessel Nijman convincingly won his first round at the Swiss Darts Trophy on Friday afternoon. At the first ever Euro Tour tournament in Switzerland, Nijman won 6-0 over Luke Woodhouse.

This hefty defeat is particularly inconvenient for Woodhouse. 'The Shed' currently holds the last qualifying spot for the World Grand Prix and the cut-off for this event is after this tournament weekend. Against Nijman, Woodhouse threw an average of only 74, while the Dutchman matched that with a moyenne of 98.

Nijman had an immediate break in the first leg with a 15-darter. A 13-darter doubled the lead. In the third leg Woodhouse had his only chances on the doubles, but missed three to get on the scoreboard. Via double 6 Nijman then took a 3-0 lead.

The 24-year-old darter then held his own leg with a 52 finish, before breaking Woodhouse for the third time after a 110 checkout. Nijman then closed out the match with a 66 finish. On Saturday, Nijman may return to action at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel. Then he will meet Chris Dobey in the second round.

Mike de Decker advanced to the next round at the expense of Graham Hall. Five missed doubles in the first two legs gave the Belgian a 0-2 deficit at the start of the match. 'The Real Deal' then managed to take six legs in a row, winning 6-2 over his English opponent. Ross Smith awaits De Decker in the next round of this event.

We will also see Karel Sedlacek in the second round of the Swiss Darts Trophy. The Czech quickly gained a 3-0 lead in his match against Jim Williams. However, the Welshman came back to 3-3, but then missed one chance to take over the lead. Sedlacek then regained the lead via double 4 and signed off with a 13-darterr to make it 5-3. Williams grabbed one more leg before Sedlacek set the final score at 6-4 with a 14-darter. 'Evil Charlie' will face Daryl Gurney in the last 32 of this tournament.

Bruno Stöckli was the first Swiss to show his skills in front of the no less than 3,700 fans seated in the hall. These all went wild after Stöckli provided a stunt by defeating the experienced Krzysztof Ratajski. The Pole had a finishing percentage of just 15 percent (3/20). Despite an average of just 79.58, Stöckli managed to win 6-3 over Ratajski. On Saturday night, Stöckli may face teenage sensation Luke Littler in the second round.
