Clayton eases past Van Trijp in whitewash win to open PDC World Darts Championship campaign

Jonny Clayton has opened his PDC World Darts Championship campaign successfully with 'The Ferret' coasting to a whitewash win over Danny van Trijp who ends his debut in the second round.

Clayton produced a 99.6 average, five 180's and 50% on the doubles in sealing a 3-0 sets win. He now faces Brendan Dolan after Christmas.

A 50 checkout on double 16 saw Clayton seal an early break and Van Trijp failed to capitalise on a good position which allowed ‘The Ferret’ to seal a 74 checkout to go one away from the set.

A dart though was missed for the set and Van Trijp took his first leg to hold. But double eight saw Clayton seal the opening set.

A 180 and 84 checkout saw Clayton hold to begin set two. A 98 checkout for an 11-darter saw him go 2-1 up before sealing it with a 78 checkout.

Van Trijp missed two darts to hold off 97 but Clayton missed two darts to break and Van Trijp hit double 12. Clayton hit double four to make it 1-1. He went one away and sealed it from there also on double 20 to move through in a whitewash win.
