The first round has begun at the
New Zealand Darts Masters in Hamilton with
Joe Cullen and
Jonny Clayton easing through to Saturday's Quarter-Finals.
Clayton was first up facing Mal Cuming who fell to Fallon Sherrock last time out and as he looks for back-to-back World Series titles, 'The Ferret' prevailed 6-1.
This was despite not being at his best with an 88 average, two 180's and 6/16 on the doubles but this was ten points more than his opponent who hit only 1/7 and as a result, it was simple for the Welshman in the end.
On paper, Cullen faced a much tougher tie as he faced Damon Heta who again received another rough draw and it was a 6-2 win for 'The Rockstar' who continues to impress on the World Series.
It was a clinical display from Cullen who went 3-1 up with a 120 checkout before consolidating his break of throw with a 56 checkout.
Heta held but Cullen went one away with a 67 checkout on double four before sealing the deal with an 11-darter as he concluded with a 94 average and 50% on his doubles.
