Joe Cullen claimed 2022 Masters this past weekend in Milton Keynes and he spoke about having the belief to finally get over the line and also missing the 10 match darts against Dave Chisnall.
"You always believe you can do it but until you do it, it's one of those things. There's times when you question whether you can. I didn't realise I missed 10 until they told me in the interview after," said Cullen to The Darts Show podcast.
Premier League selection
As a result, he was included in the Premier League Darts line-up and it is an accolade that Cullen believes he deserves.
"It's all been hard work, I've sacrificed a lot with family for a good number of years. Darts has taken over family life. I've worked hard, I think I deserve it. To play week in week out especially the new format, new look, new sponsor, new dartboard. For that to be my first one where everything is new is great and I can't wait to get going in Cardiff on Thursday."
Also a main part of his win was his dad in the crowd and he spoke about doing it for his Mum who sadly passed away and what it meant to him as a result.
"As cliche as it sounds, the win wasn't just for me. Since June last year when my mum got diagnosed, it's been a torrid time. The first half of last year, I was good, I won a couple of tournaments. When you look at my results after June, you can see when my mum's illness got a little bit worse. To have my father there with losing my mum was special."
