Dan Dawson on midweek Players Championships: "This isn't that big of a departure from what we've got at the minute"

The PDC recently announced the darts calendar for 2024. Especially on the European Tour and the Players Championship, there are the necessary changes.

Starting next year, there will be two Euro Tours in Belgium, after Wieze, Antwerp will be added. "Belgium has the best crowds in any darts at the moment," said Dawson, who among other things commentates for Sky Sports and PDC.tv, in conversation with Online Darts. "The Wiese event we've had for the last two years has been absolutely sensational. How it's been promoted, the crowds, it's been amazing so the fact we've got a second one I think is brilliant."

The growth of the European Tour is something Dawson loves to see. "Switzerland? Who knows, it might be amazing. It is a country with a long history of darts, they've got some decent players. I understand ticket sales are encouraging so that's good."

Players Championship

Finally, the darts commentator also talked briefly about the Players Championship tournaments, which will take place midweek each time starting next year. "To be honest, it's still pretty new news. I haven't had time to digest it and canvass views from all the players. Part of me thinks this isn't that big of a departure from what we've got at the minute."

"I realise people are saying; I've got a full-time job, I work Monday to Friday 9-5. These are problems that darts players are facing already. I don't know what impact this is going to have but as I say, I don't think it's as big of a departure."
