Darts commentator Abigail Davies on evolution of Women's Darts: "The gap between Lisa and Fallon and the chasing pack is closing"

Abigail Davies commentates on the PDC Women's Series and also works on TalkSport and having watched the action close up was enthusiastic about the current state of Women's Darts on show at the PDC Women's World Matchplay.

"Five different nationalities in there, that's important. The range of experience and just the age gap between those players because as Lorraine Winstanley said these young girls like Katie Sheldon and Chloe O'Brien, they are the future of this game.

"When they are long retired, these are the ones that are going to carry women's darts to the next level. The success of that tournament was a culmination of a number of things but the support the PDC have given Women's Darts, it's organised the exact same as the ProTour is. It's phenomenal."

Which lends itself to the gap reducing and Lisa Ashton and Fallon Sherrock not dominating as much now as before.

"You look at the players that didn't even qualify. You've got Mikuru (Suzuki), Deta (Hedman) all these players who we know and have helped grow this game weren't even there. It just shows the strength and depth that is starting to be bred in this sport. The gap between Lisa and Fallon and the chasing pack is closing."
