Defending champion Humphries ends Van Barneveld's run, set to face brilliant Van Veen in Quarter-Finals

The first Quarter-Final has been set up at the 2023 European Darts Grand Prix with the defending champion, Luke Humphries still involved in Sindelfingen.

Humphries ended the run of the Dutch legend, Raymond van Barneveld to kick off Sunday's action in a superb display from 'Cool Hand Luke'.

It was a 6-2 win with a 95.3 average and 66% on the doubles. Humphries broke initially at 3-1 after Barney missed 128 to hold throw and he consolidated with a 96 checkout after Barney missed multiple darts to break back.

Barney held at 4-2 down with a 72 checkout but with a 78 checkout and a break again to seal it after Barney missed darts to stay in it, Humphries sealed it.

He will now face rising Dutch ace, Gian van Veen. Taking on Josh Rock who he has similarities to due to their upward trajectories since joining the PDC Tour, it could've been a thumping for the Dutchman.

He went 5-1 up with a 140 and 97 checkout back to back but missed a match dart and Rock kept it interesting taking two more legs but he couldn't complete the comeback with missed darts at double allowing Van Veen back for 68 for the win.

This bookended a sensational display featuring a 99.8 average, six 180's and three ton plus checkouts to reach his first ever European Tour Quarter-Final.
