𝗗𝗢𝗕𝗘𝗬 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗧! A first PDC ranking title for Chris Dobey as he beats Jose De Sousa 8-7 in a brilliant final! What a moment for the 31-year-old 👏
Chris Dobey is finally a PDC title winner after a drama filled final of Players Championship 18 with Jose de Sousa who himself missed the chance for a fourth of the year.
Dobey who had priorly lost in four PDC finals stretching back to 2016 including two further ProTour and one European Tour survived eight match darts as luck was finally on the side of 'Hollywood' who came through 8-7.
This also helps his cause with the World Matchplay and sees the 31-year-old finally in the winners' circle.
Dobey produced a brilliant start going 4-1 up and taking the game to De Sousa but as ever 'The Special One' found his way back into it producing a second 11-darter to keep in touch before a break to make it 4-3.
He consolidated to lock it in at 4-4 before the script continued as Dobey missed bull for a 170 before De Sousa pounced with a 96 checkout to make it 5-5.
De Sousa continued to reel him in and broke throw with a 12-darter to hit the front for the first time at 6-5 up.
Dobey broke straight back though having been given a second opportunity after De Sousa couldn't make a dent in 151 with a last dart double two to make it 6-6.
Dobey couldn't get a shot at 120 and De Sousa smashed in two double 18's before hitting double seven for a 122 and De Sousa was throwing for the title suddenly.
Dobey was wounded as the brilliance of De Sousa seemed to be a hammer blow and it was as The Special One laid up 105 with Dobey unable to get to a finish.
He came back second time around for double nine and the title with Dobey waiting on 44 to force a decider and the Bedlington ace was given a shot.
It was a shot he took on double eight and roles were reversed as Dobey was given the chance to serve it out.
He started with 137 but De Sousa was soon breathing down his neck leaving 170 first but Dobey smashed in a 140 to leave 56 for the title.
Could De Sousa break his heart again for the title? He missed bull for the title but Dobey missed two more himself. He returned though again with De Sousa missing more for the title himself.
Three more at double 20 for Dobey and second time around he claimed it.
