Darts may no longer be shown on the Dutch darts channel RTL 7 next year. Sports marketer Chris Woerts revealed in the popular talkshow Veronica Inside that a new sports broadcaster has taken over the broadcasting rights.
The buyer is reportedly the Nordic Entertainment Group, a Scandinavian company that is already broadcasting darts in Scandinavia and the Baltic states via the streaming service Viaplay. They want to set up a new sports channel in the Netherlands and have therefore also bought the rights to broadcast the German football league (Bundesliga) and Formula 1. According to Woerts, more will be announced about this deal on Thursday.
The current contract between the PDC and RTL 7 about the broadcasting rights of darts tournaments expires after the upcoming World Darts Championship. There also were rumors that from 2022 the big majors remain with RTL 7, while the smaller TV events can be seen on a different channel.
