Edgar discusses whether World Championship is too weighted in terms of prize money

The PDC World Darts Championship is a flagship event and a real source of great prize money but is this tournament too heavily weighted in terms of the Order of Merit.

Matthew Edgar's new video on Edgar TV explores that and discusses multiple examples of how players benefit from the showpiece tournament including himself.

"The World Championship is the flagship event of the PDC, broadcast around the world, sell out crowds, the biggest paid event and it has to be but is that too heavy in relation to other events," said Edgar.

"The first thing I'm going to present is Stephen Bunting who has had two very good runs at the World Championship in recent years where he reached the semi-final and he also reached the Last 16. His two year ranking gives us £260,000 worth of earnings however £135,000 of that is from the World Championship, a massive 52%."

"We've got Gary Anderson, 55% of his prize money has come from the World Championship. Nathan Aspinall 37% and also Dave Chisnall with 32%. The further down the rankings you go, the higher these percentages go because the prize money and the payout is immense."

"Getting to that second round like I did was £15,000, that is a ProTour win and a ProTour runner-up."
