German darts channel nominated for German television award thanks to broadcast of World Darts Championship

German broadcaster SPORT1 has been nominated for "best sports program" at the German Television Awards 2023 because of of their coverage during the World Darts Championship 2023.
The channel drew a record number of viewers during the most important darts tournament of the year, with Gabriel Clemens becoming the first German dart player ever to reach the semifinals.
Clemens' semifinal against eventual world champion Michael Smith was watched by as many as 3.78 million people on Sport1. That is a record for darts on the open net in Germany.
It was also the third best-watched broadcast in Sport1's 30-year history. As a result, SPORT1 has been nominated for Germany's most prestigious media award. It is the first time that a darts broadcast has been nominated for this by the jury. On Thursday, September 28, a grand television gala will announce whether the darts broadcast will actually win the award.

- It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). - Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media.
