Hankey looks back to brilliant comeback win over Whitlock at Grand Slam of Darts: "I was just doing little things to put him off without trying to break the rules and it worked for me"

Ted Hankey played one of the most memorable games of his career back in 2013. During the Grand Slam of Darts, Simon Whitlock claimed a 6-1 lead against Hankey, but ‘The Count’ produced a brilliant comeback.

In a recent interview with the Weekly Dartscast, he touched on that match as well as the switch beforehand to the PDC in which he admitted he wasn't happy.

"I thought come on, you're actually doing well here. He's battering me off the board; but I was just doing little things to put him off without trying to break the rules and it worked for me. I was quite happy with that game," said Hankey on the Weekly Dartscast.

"I was never happy there. I just decided that's where I was going to go back to; so I went back there and I just tried to start again and it was again that I started to enjoy my game.

It wasn't the intensity of what happens on the PDC Tour, going back to the BDO and being able to be with your mates and have a laugh; you'd get fined all the time which is one of the big problems over there for me as well."

For 'The Count', he admitted he has got his mojo back and that there could even be a PDC return if the BDO isn't a factor anymore: "I'm back where I want to be, I know I can go in there and do what I want to do again. I can go out and win any tournament, I was getting there before the lockdown," he continued.

"The unfortunate situation is that you've got the BDO in disarray at the moment. If it ends up that I have to go back to the PDC; I've got to find a different mindset and a different way of playing in the PDC; but if something can happen on the BDO side, that would be fantastic."
