John Henderson will take part in the World Cup of Darts next month in a new look pairing for the defending champions, Scotland.
Both Gary Anderson and Peter Wright have withdrawn from the event with the pandemic meaning travel restrictions.
As a result, the experienced pairing of the popular 'Highlander' and multiple major champion Robert Thornton will step in. Speaking about the chance, Henderson spoke about getting the call and he was not surprised he did get one due to Anderson in particular all but withdrawing recently.
"I'd have loved to see Gary (Anderson) and Peter (Wright) out there defending the title but obviously under the circumstances, the climate, they don't want to travel so the opportunity has came for myself and Robert and I'm going to grab it.
"To be able to represent my country and say I could do it for both codes now is a dream come true for me."
"I was sitting in Aberdeen airport coming down to Birmingham ready for my COVID test in the morning to head out to Sindelfingen for the European Tour so I got the call sitting in the airport waiting for my flight."
"I had a funny feeling I might have got an opportunity because I knew Gary wasn't going to want to travel. I can understand why so I had a funny feeling I was in with a chance but when I heard Peter had withdrawn as well, it would have been nice to play with the World Champion but Robert Thornton is as good a player as any of them."
