In addition to his darting accomplishments,
Adrian Lewis is also known for his run-ins with players. Over at "The Checkout Extra" podcast, he looked back at two of those incidents.
Perhaps the most famous incident involving Lewis occurred during the quarterfinals of the 2006 World Darts Championship. Lewis, who made his debut that year, took on the experienced
Peter Manley.
"It was my first World Championship, it was Quarter-Finals night. Obviously the stakes were high. I knew what it was going to be like anyway from speaking to him. He's going to be hard to deal with here. I had this in my mind as the game started approaching closer, he started saying stuff" said Lewis.
"As soon as we got on stage, he was carrying on and talking. You try and focus and you've got him chatting and waffling.
Incitement with Justicia
In 2018, Lewis got involved in another incident, this time with José Justicia. During a qualifying tournament for the UK Open, Lewis nearly went at the Spaniard, which ultimately earned him a 3,000-pound fine and three months' suspended suspension.
"To be honest, it was my fault. I hear him talking to the bar staff going I want this and that now. I thought who the hell is that guy. As I come back, the tournament director came up and said you're playing
Jose Justicia on the stream. I had already lost the plot and things escalated from there. Like I say it was completely my fault."
