Despite coming through a scrappy encounter against Diego Portela on his
PDC World Darts Championship debut,
Cameron Menzies admitted he was less than impressed with his performance overall. "I'm chuffed to bits to have won, gutted with how I played."
Averaging just shy of 86 in his victory, Menzies is aware that if wants to progress in this tournament he'll have to step up his game. "I feel like I've got a lot more to give," he says. "If I finish like that I'll be happy but my scoring is usually my strong point so hopefully I can raise it. If I don't I'll be back in work on Friday."
Wearing his heart on his sleeve, the former WDF World Championship semi-finalist is always an entertaining player to watch but Menzies says he has tried to reign in his emotions recently. "I wish I could actually be less emotional and be sensible," he says. "I do believe if I want to become a top player I need to learn how to deal with that, push forward and be more sensible."
With the 2nd round pitting two of the fastest players in the world of darts against each other as Menzies takes on Dutchman Vincent van der Voort, Menzies is full of praise for his counterpart. "He obviously is a very good player. He's been kicking about for god knows how long," he says. "Hopefully the two of us score well, play well and it's a very good game for the crowd."
