"If I'm critical it could be a bit better" - Michael van Gerwen unconvinced despite 'whitewash' against Kevin Doets

Michael van Gerwen has qualified particularly convincingly for the third round of the Dutch Darts Championship. 'Mighty Mike' was too strong in the second round 6-0 for his compatriot Kevin Doets.

"You always have to be a little critical of yourself, it might have been just a little bit better that way," Van Gerwen opened to Viaplay. "But I did reach a very consistent level and threw some important finishes at the right moments."

Van Gerwen reached almost a 97 average. "I didn't really get in trouble for a single moment and that's what you want in front of your own crowd. I could put him under pressure the whole time and that's how you can hurt someone. He then lost track a bit and of course I was able to take advantage of that. I also anticipated his mistakes well."

The crowd at the Autotron in Rosmalen was obviously completely on Van Gerwen's side. "You don't play that often in your own country, that's why it's always extra hard to enjoy when you get to play in front of your own supporters for once."

"I want to get far this weekend and make my supporters proud, but most of all I want to enjoy this weekend."

Van Gerwen will take on Chris Dobey, who won 6-0 over Moreno Blom in the second round, on Sunday afternoon in the third round.
