"If you pick the Premier League now I'm in it" - Luke Humphries confident of finally making all-star lineup in 2024

Luke Humphries got his latest attempt at taking a first major title underway with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Daryl Gurney in the opening round of the 2023 World Grand Prix in Leicester on Tuesday night.

"I expected a really tough game there, I think Daryl and me didn't play our best in the first set but it's just one of them things you know, pressure, pressure, pressure," said a relieved Humphries in a post-match interview with Online Darts. "Pressure to start, pressure to hit good scores, pressure to finish but I felt like I dealt with it well."

Currently world-ranked number six, Humphries has enjoyed another successful year in 2023 with a pair of Players Championship wins and another European Tour title added to his resume. A first major TV title still eludes him though.

"It's gone really good this year but it could have been even better," he reflects. "There's a lot of tournaments I maybe should have won. The World Series of Darts Finals got away from me but I'm relaxed, I enjoy the game, I love playing darts. Just keep winning as much as I can and we'll see what can happen."

Given his success last year, many expected Humphries to be in the Premier League Darts lineup for 2023 however, 'Cool Hand Luke' was a notable omission. This time around though, Humphries is confident he will finally get his chance. "If you pick the Premier League now I'm in it," he confidently states. "I don't think there's a question about it. But I was in it last October."
