For Chris Dobey, his debut Premier League Darts campaign must feel like a steep learning curve. Despite victory on the opening night he has struggled for wins ever since.
As it turns out though these struggles are little to do with the quality of the darts being thrown by 'Hollywood' himself. Of the last seven weekly quarter-final matchups Dobey has lost, the Englishman had averaged over 100 in five of them.
Not even a mighty average of 106.47 was enough for Dobey to get the win against Gerwyn Price a few weeks ago. Averages of 100.83, 97.64, 103.27, 99.09, 101.98 and 104.45 have all also seen Dobey come out on the losing end, most recently in Leeds last night against Michael Smith.
If Dobey was at all unaware of the week in, week out quality the best in the world can produce this has surely been a rude awakening and although his chances of making the play-offs may seem slim, if Dobey continues to post those high averages there is every chance he could go on a late run and potentially sneak fourth place.
