Beau Greaves joined the small list of female darters to defeat their male opponents on a big PDC stage on Sunday afternoon. The Women's World Champion put in a brilliant performance to see off Ricardo Pietreczko 5-1.
"I feel great," Greaves reacted in her post-match interview with Online Darts. "Obviously, it's nice that I've played to get over the line and it's a great feeling. Who wouldn't be happy after they'd just done that?"
As is often the case when the female stars take on their male counterparts, Greaves was heavily cheered by the crowd whilst Pietreczko had do deal with the boos of those in attendance, something the German was visibly struggling with. "I did feel for him a little bit," Greaves sympathises. "I think the crowd was on his back and stuff but that's just what happens isn't it when play the ladies on the big stage. I love the support and it's been a great day."
Having pushed Nathan Aspinall all the way in her first group game, Greaves has been very impressive so far. "I think I hit a few 180s in that but it was the sort of game where I hit a lot of 60s and 59s. So it was nice today to go out there and turn them scores into 100s. It's nice to just feel comfortable up there and play quite well."
On the horizon for 'Beau n Arrow' is the Women's World Championship at Lakeside after the Women's World Matchplay champion turned down the chance to play at the Alexandra Palace. Given that, Greaves is relaxed at the Grand Slam, seeing the tournament as a bonus before more important tests to come. "I do think it's just a bonus for me. I've got in my eyes bigger comps coming up that I would like to win," she explains. "It's nice just to be here and like a free bird just play how I can do and just relax on such a big stage."
