Kai Fan Leung claimed his Tour Card last year and after the likes of Royden Lam have claimed them before from Hong Kong, he made the decision unlike his compatriot to move over to the UK.
As a result, Leung has been over in the UK for most of the Covid-19 pandemic and he caught up with Tungsten Tales to discuss his start in the PDC and in darts.
"It's a dream but it's COVID time as well so can say I'm lucky or I'm unlucky. I'm really enjoying playing with the best in the world, that's everybody's dream," said Leung to Tungsten Tales.
"There are a lot of soft-tip machines in Hong Kong in a lot of bars. It's been pretty popular for the past ten years. I hit a hat-trick in soft-tip so I carry on playing, I joined a local league in Hong Kong and then because there is a lot of opportunity to go overseas to play soft tip and represent your country or city so I really eagerly tried to represent."
"The first time I played steel tip was 2014. There are a lot of tournaments in Hong Kong both in steel tip and soft tip so that's how it started."
Based in Liverpool and practicing with Stephen Bunting in particular, Leung spoke about the decision also to base himself in the city.
"It came into my head that I need to play because I quit my job to 100% dedicate myself. Even if I don't win a game, even if I don't win a leg, I need to commit," he added.
"Luckily my cousins live in Liverpool so I've got the base as well to try to get a little bit of relief. Automatically in my head, I'm going to fully commit. At the time, my family didn't know what I wanted to do as well."
"I've got a four year old daughter now and my wife as well so it's very hard not to see them."
