For the first time in his career, Scott Williams has made it through to the last 16 at the PDC World Darts Championship following a stunning 4-3 win over Martin Schindler.
"Honestly I'm so drained," the Englishman admits in his post-match press conference. "It's tough playing the first game anyway. You're up early, you're trying to prep as early as as you can and you know Martin's going to give you exactly what you're going to give him. So I'm just so happy to come out as a victor."

Despite Schindler firing in 13 180s, it was Williams doubling prowess that eventually got him over the line. "I mean, as you see from the first two games, I'm very steady on the doubles. I don't know what the percentage was there, but my doubles have always been good over the last two games," Williams assesses. "It's like any game, you have a chance if your opponent misses a double. I missed two at a double and he took that 161 out. It's very far margins."
With the tie played in front of a raucous crowd, Williams was enjoying every second of the electric Ally Pally atmosphere. "That was the most intense crowd I've played in front of and 85% of the time they were on my side," says 'Shaggy'. "I was so tired and just drained, but I tried not to join in all the chants and stuff because I'm such a bubbly guy. I just want to give them the game that they've paid for."
"Martin's going to be absolutely gutted that he lost there. But the neutral guys that are watching, the German guys, the English guys, the Dutch guys, the Swiss guys, the Swedish guys, everyone who's turned up they're going to be so happy to see what happened there and that's what I'm happy about as well."
After an impressive performances at Ally Pally last year, Williams was unable to build on that during the year. For him, the reasoning is clear. The poor scheduling of the PDC. "You're meant to be professional," he slams. "These guys want us as professional. 8 weeks for us guys and I was in the top 64 is not good enough we need more."
In the next round, Williams will face either Damon Heta or Berry van Peer.
