Michael van Gerwen in last minute withdrawal from Players Championship 22 due to illness

Michael van Gerwen will not start Tuesday's 22nd Players Championship tournament of the season after all. 'Mighty Mike' had traveled on Monday to Leicester where two Pro Tours are being played this week, but the 35-year-old from the Netherlands has fallen ill.
Van Gerwen was scheduled to face Jules van Dongen in the first round of Players Championship 22 on Tuesday. As a result of Van Gerwen's withdrawal, Van Dongen received a bye to the second round.
Last weekend there was nothing to worry about for Van Gerwen. The three-time world champion played a strong tournament at the Hungarian Darts Trophy and managed to win another Euro Tour tournament in Budapest for the first time in 16 months.
