Luke Humphries sealed the World Grand Prix last week for a maiden major title in Leicester and shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to his winning form with a statement win on Saturday night at the
German Darts Championship.
Humphries swept Boris Krcmar aside with a stunning 106 average, which has only been bettered by Ricardo Pietreczko earlier this evening. He sealed it 6-2 with five 180's and this was despite missing 11 darts at double during the contest.
But Krcmar could only hit two out of 10 as his response. Humphries sealed in style too hitting a 180 to leave 47 which he took out last dart in hand for a 12-darter. This after hitting two more efforts in this range including an 82 and 58 back-to-back for a 4-1 lead as he headed towards the finishing line.
While Chris Dobey who kept his hopes alive yesterday of making it to the European Championship sees those hang on a knife edge after defeat to
Peter Wright.
Wright sealed it 6-2 with his highlights being two 116 checkouts at crucial times. Those being at 3-1` up and to go 5-2 up and one away from the finishing line. He sealed it from there on double eight with Dobey only pressuring. He will now be under pressure with his spot on the edge.
Michael Smith was on the edge of going out against Alan Soutar to end the night. Soutar produced one of his best displays in some time with six 180's as he came back from 4-0 to lead 5-4.
But Smith showed real champions grit to survive the scare with a clutch 80 checkout with Soutar sat waiting on 32 for the win. 'Bully Boy' can breathe a sigh of relief as he joins the line-up for the final day.
