This date went down in history as the day of darts legend Phil Taylor claimed his last major title. The Power took the title in his favourite tournament - the World Matchplay in Blackpool. Taylor managed to win this tournament sixteen times in 24 appearances.
He had a tough route though to the final. The quarterfinals were reached with victories over Gerwyn Price (10-5) and Raymond van Barneveld (11-3). In the last eight, Michael van Gerwen was beaten 16-6 easily by his old rival.
In the semi-final battle Adrian Lewis was unable to keep up with his fellow Stoke-on-Trent ace and lost out 17-9. Then it was Peter Wright who lost to Taylor (18-8) in the final.
