Gerwyn Price as well as becoming World Champion has also become the new World Number One and the 10th at that in PDC history.
Price added £500,000 to his ranking which in turn saw him do what only Peter Wright was seemingly poised to do before the showpiece event began at the Alexandra Palace.
Since moving to the ranking points system in 2007, Phil Taylor has held the position twice from January 2007 to January 2008 and once more from June 2008 to January 2014 when Michael van Gerwen took top spot.
Price interestingly enough only attended Q-School 15 days after Van Gerwen became World Number One showing the dominance of the Dutchman.
Another Dutchman was top for a short spell in the intervening period between Taylor's reigns. Raymond van Barneveld topped the PDC
Order of Merit for six months between January and June 2008.
Other World Number Ones include Alan Warriner-Little, Dennis Priestley, Rod Harrington, Peter Manley, John Part, Colin Lloyd and Taylor who all hit top spot before the Order of Merit system was introduced.
