Gerwyn Price has already won two
European Tour tournaments this year. At this weekend's
Belgian Darts Open, however, he will not be competing.
Price was not in the top-16 of the European rankings at the time the list of participants was finalized (7 March). So he would have had to pass the qualifiers to still qualify. "And I didn't want to do that. The schedule is already busy enough. Consequently, I won't come to Belgium unfortunately," Price told HLN.
"Not only will I miss the tournament in Belgium, but also three other tournaments on the European Tour (in Austria, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic). However, now I am firmly in that top-16, which means I can participate in the last five rounds of the European Tour. That's good for me."
Belgian fans
Price, however, has a message for Belgian fans, who recently set up a Facebook group to encourage him. "Next year I will be there," he promises. "I'm looking forward to meeting those lovely supporters."
