Price on World Cup of Darts format after Austria win: "The PDC usually get it right but I think they got this one wrong"

Wales are through to the Quarter-Finals of the World Cup of Darts after escaping narrowly against Austria during the pairs decider with Jonny Clayton losing to Rowby-John Rodriguez to set up that finale.

"That game was always going to be hard. It was always going to be a tough game, to play against Mensur and Rowby, someone who is slow and someone who is quick, I'd rather play against two slower players or two quicker players. To be fair, Rowby did his job against me but thank god Gezzy was on fire in the first game. We've done the job," said Clayton to Online Darts.

"We always like to put on good performances and average big averages but sometimes it's about grinding results out. It's roasting up there and we're under a lot of pressure which makes it twice as hot. We didn't play our best game but we came through and won and we are still in," said Price.

But in terms of the format, it is one which Price is not a fan of insisting it should be pairs all the way through. "That's what it should be, it's a pairs tournament. It's a doubles tournament, it's not a singles tournament. You could go all the way apart from the first round and win this tournament without playing a pairs, it's not a pairs tournament then. The PDC usually get it right but I think they got this one wrong."
