Gerwyn Price seals rampant revenge at PDC World Darts Championship, eases past Van Barneveld to snap winless streak

At the Grand Slam of Darts, Gerwyn Price lost twice in a row to Raymond van Barneveld and had no wins in six meetings. That has changed tonight at the PDC World Darts Championship this evening with the current World Number One silencing the resurgence of the doyen of Dutch Darts.
Price eased past Van Barneveld in a 4-0 win with a 93.68 average, six 180's and 38% on the outer ring. He will face either Ryan Searle or Jose de Sousa in the Last 16 and now has revenge on the biggest stage in darts.
An 84 checkout saw a quality start for Price. Van Barneveld missed 160 to hold but returned for double 10. A 68 checkout saw him go one away from the opening set.
Van Barneveld couldn’t get a dart at 96 and Price returned for 87 for the set. He went five darts into a nine-dart finish to begin the second set on Barney’s throw followed by a 117 checkout.
He left double eight and Van Barneveld couldn’t get a shot at 104 and he hit double four on return to go one away from a 2-0 sets lead. He missed double 19 for a 98 checkout but Van Barneveld missed a dart at 72.
Price though missed three more for the set and Van Barneveld kept it going with Price having to serve out the second set. But he pinned a 66 checkout to claim it.
Price missed two darts at 74 but Van Barneveld couldn’t get a shot at 139 and this allowed ‘The Iceman’ back for 1-0. Van Barneveld returned with a superb two bull 125 checkout to hold.
Price missed 95 to go one away from a 3-0 sets lead but returned for double four. Van Barneveld missed 161 on the bull to hold but returned for double eight to make it 2-2.
Both hit 180’s but Price was first to a finish missing 67 for the set but returned for double 20 again only to miss three and Barney had a shot at 94. He missed double eight for it and Price hit double 10 for 3-0.
Both exchanged 180’s again but it was Barney who hit a 147 on double 18 to hold with Price waiting on 65. Price missed three at double 10 to hold but Barney missed 120 on double 20 and ‘The Iceman’ returned to make it 1-1.
Price missed two to break and go one away but Barney couldn’t hold which allowed Price to go one away. A 128 checkout saw him seal it.
