Ross Smith claims maiden PDC title on third day of PDC Super Series 5

Ross Smith took the title on the third day of the PDC Super Series 5. Smudger won the 19th Players Championship tournament of the season by defeating Brendan Dolan in the final.

The Englishman had started the tournament with wins over Steve Lennon (6-5) and Keane Barry (6-3), before knocking Gerwyn Price out of the tournament 6-4. Subsequently Ron Meulenkamp (6-4), Gary Anderson (6-1) and Ryan Joyce (7-2) also had to bow to Smith.

Smith was broken in the first leg of the final by Dolan, but broke back immediately with a 14-darter. The 32-year-old then raced to a 4-2 lead. Dolan was able to keep up to 6-4 before Smith took the win in the twelfth leg with a 66 checkout.
