Gian van Veen has reached the last sixteen at the
European Darts Matchplay in very impressive fashion. With an average of 114 and a finishing percentage of 100 percent, he outplayed Damon Heta 6-0.
In just a few months, Van Veen has rocketed to become one of the rising stars in darts. Many already see him as the next Josh Rock, who made a big impression in his debut year on the Pro Tour last year.
Van Veen already gave a warning of his shining form in his first round on Friday. Then he threw 104 average and a finishing percentage of 75 percent to beat compatriot Christian Kist 6-3.
With an 85 finish and a 98 check-out the 21-year-old dart player from Poederoijen took a 2-0 lead against 'The Heat'. Heta then missed a chance at double 8 for 1-2, after which Van Veen went on to lead 5-0 with a 13-darter, a 124 finish and an 11-darter. Van Veen then provided a spectacular end to the match by hitting 131 including two double 20's.
Rob Cross also managed to secure a spot among the last sixteen at the European Darts Matchplay in Trier on Saturday afternoon. The former world champion defeated Mickey Mansell 6-4.
