Sensational 100+ averages continue as Joe Cullen and Gian van Veen reach Quarter-Finals in Graz

Gian van Veen advanced to the last eight of the Austrian Darts Open after a fine victory over Ritchie Edhouse. With Edhouse he met an opponent in top form, but with an average of 105 'GVV The Giant' proved too strong.

In the early stages of the match, both men showed excellent finishing skills. Van Veen hit 97, while Edhouse took a 3-2 lead with 92, 90 and 83 check-outs. The first mistake came in the sixth leg, when Van Veen missed five chances on dimes. Edhouse struck with a 14-darter to take a 4-2 lead. However, Van Veen broke back immediately with an 11-darter and then evened the score with a 97 finish.

Then 76 was also thrown out by the Dutchman, who thus needed one more leg for the win. He then left 48 after four visits in the tenth leg, but missed his first two match darts. Edhouse had a chance to force a deciding leg from 101, but the Englishman missed a dart on double 16. Then Van Veen finally used his fourth matchdart for a spot in the quarterfinals of this tournament.

Sunday night awaits a meeting with Joe Cullen. 'The Rockstar' managed to eliminate Dave Chisnall 6-3. It was a high-class match between the two Englishmen, as Cullen threw an average of 102, versus 98 for Chisnall.
