Michael Smith produces stunning 106 average to ease past Meulenkamp in straight sets at PDC World Darts Championship

Michael Smith has laid down a marker and produced the best performance of the tournament so far at the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship averaging 106.32 in breezing past Ron Meulenkamp 3-0 in sets.

Smith hit six 180's, 75% on doubles with a high checkout of 110 as he sends a message to the rest of the field that he is gunning for glory this year.

A 180 and 110 checkout on double 18 saw Smith hold throw and take the lead. He pinned another 180 and pinned double 12 to go 2-0 up and one away from an opening set.

Smith continued his superb start with two double 19’s on a 95 checkout to break throw and head into the lead. A 68 checkout saw Smith hold throw. He missed double 13 to break again and Meulenkamp had one dart at 79 for the hold which he pinned. 

Smith though was throwing for the second set. Meulenkamp missed 70 on double 20 to break and Smith hit double 14 for a 2-0 sets lead. A 57 checkout saw Smith lead again in potentially the final set of the match. 

A 53 checkout saw Smith break and he went one away. He produced a 180 and 96 to claim the tie.
