In "On This Day In", DartsNews reflects on a player's event win or achievement on that specific time. This time we go back ten years to June 29, 2010.
Today it is thirteen years ago today that Co Stompé won his second out of three PDC titles winning it in Las Vegas in an event which is different from the usual Desert Classic held there.
Back then, Players Championship events were played outside of Europe with ProTour tournaments happening after the PDC US Open. He began with a 6-0 win over Edwin Martin, then defeated Wayne Mardle 6-5.
After that, he saw off Adrian Lewis (6-3), Steve Beaton (6-2) and Jelle Klaasen (6-4). Matt Clark awaited after 'Superman' had put in a hero like effort to see off Andy Hamilton, Terry Jenkins and Phil Taylor.
He awaited and he lost out 6-0 against 'The Matchstick'. Stompé then went onto defeat James Wade 6-3 in the final. This comes after winning the 2008 German Darts Championship and then in 2010 he teamed with Raymond van Barneveld to win the World Cup of Darts.
